Portable water filter bottles for camping and hiking and travelabroad
Having a high quality portable water filter bottle has been an alternative to buying bottled water for my family.
I spent the last four years living in a small village in Mexico. One thing you learn quickly is that the the phrase "don't drink the water" is one that even the Mexicans take seriously. Montezuma has many ways to get his revenge and most of them come by way of drinking water. Micro-organisms introduction into the intestinal tract of unprepared travelers or residents is most often through drinking unpurified water. Most Mexicans and savvy travelers use bottled water as an alternative. While bottled water may be a good alternative, it has two drawbacks: one is that it is expensive, the other is that it is not always available. I solved both problems by always carrying a portable water filter bottle with me and using an equivalent system at home for drinking and cooking water.
The most dependable and long-lasting portable water filter bottle I have found is the one sold exclusively through the following web site - Berkey Drinking Water Filter
This bottle filter has been a real life-saver while traveling throughout Mexico.
In addition to the PWFB I also use one of Berkey brand water filter systems at home. It provides all the purified clear clean water I need for drinking and cooking. It is a great alternative to the hassles of buying, lifting a 20 liter (5 gallon) bottle of water, turning it upside down and trying to hit the container opening, not only that but it is of uncertain quality.
I highly recommend this portable filter bottle to anyone traveling and the Berkey system to anyone living abroad or where the water is of questionable quality, which could be almost anywhere.
No plumbing, no electricity, low maintenance and long-lasting - a great alternative to bottled water for both you and the environment.
